Welcome to my website.  It is dedicated to the crisis which all of us share at this point in the 21st century.  That crisis can be defined this way:  We are in a time when persons and nations are competing for resources, often in violent ways.

Why are we in this mess?  The letter of James says it this way:

1”Those conflicts and disputes among you, where do they come from? Do they not come from your cravings that are at war within you? 2You want something and do not have it; so you commit murder. And you covet something and cannot obtain it; so you engage in disputes and conflicts. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures.”  James 4:3

Many of us are people of faith.  We believe in one God.  Some of us believe in gods and goddesses.  Others believe in the Tao. Others believe in Buddha nature.  Still some of us see no evidence of a God at work in our world.  But there is a mystery to the universe, which we are only beginning to understand, and which cannot easily be explained.  But we can no longer afford using our religious faith to make war on one another.

Don’t misunderstand me:  I am a follower of Jesus Christ, a Christian in the western tradition.  I would describe myself as an evangelical catholic in the wesleyan tradition.  But, I have friends in all traditions.  This website will be dedicated to common ground.  It will be dedicated to faith, but faith that is open to exploration and still grounded in our faith traditions.  I know that we can learn from one another.  And as women and men of good faith, at the very least there can be understanding.  And should the One whom I believe made us all bless us, perhaps we can discover a greater family in the common hopes we have and share.

  1. chrismadison.net is a safe environment for dialogue. This means:
    • Please state your name if you wish, or a screen name, your faith background, if you have one
    • The issue you are concerned about
    • We expect the best behavior from all who write on this site. 
    • The blogger needs to state her or his position or list concerns based on the issues that concern the blogger
    • We invite persons to express their feelings and opinions honestly, but in appropriate ways which do not attack others.  Let’s do our best to stick to issues and not focus on personalities!
    • We invite persons to make faith statements, and why one believes as one does.
    • We will adhere to the rule: Everything needs to be spoken respectfully and with an eye toward love, even loving those with whom we disagree.
  2. We will talk about Issues and how those issues affect the blogger, her or his community, and the world.
  3. Let’s not try to convert one another.  This site is for dialogue, not for “winning” or “losing.”
